ARTIST PROFILE
YUKO MORIYAMA
Yuko Moriyama is a Japanese artist based in Chelmsford in the East of England. She is best known for her series of monochrome graphite drawings entitled Water Spirits.1 In these compositions the sea is the only presence.
It is immersive, appearing vast. Mesmeric intertwined forms languidly undulate in soft waves, inviting the beholder to slow down. They well up, swollen with primordial spirit. The surface trembles, brushed by the brightness of angels, a gossamer shroud ascending towards an infinite horizon.
