Silke Schoener, Windblown

About the Artist

Silke Schoener is a contemporary realist painter, famous for her serene, yet poetical landscapes, inspired from North Hesse’s nature.

Silke studied in Dresden soon after the ‘fall of the Berlin Wall’, where she was influenced by the Leipzig School. This influence can be detected in her confident drawing, her strong compositional sense and her freedom from false gestures.

The empty white spaces on her oil paintings are her visual signature, an ability which a few artists managed to master. Her creation process is an ongoing one, where she constantly searches for visual inspirations in nature, in her everyday surroundings and foreign places. She uses her camera to capture the moment which then takes back to her studio.

In an intuitive selection process, she composes the picture by only painting what she feels is essential and necessary, leaving out the other parts.

Thus by means of extraction and the use of white space she attempts to represent a mental and spiritual world. By creating these empty spaces on her canvas she gives room to the real objects to expand, and the opportunity to the viewer to fill in these blank areas.

The powerful balance of white space and the landscape on Silke’s canvases, brings clarity and serenity to the viewer, in a way that only Silke can apply in her unique way.

Silke Schoener has exhibited in countries such as USA, France, Japan, and Germany, and she has regular participations in international art fairs around the world.
