About the Artist

British, 1915-2003

Terry Frost helped pioneer the development of British Abstract art in the mid-20th century. His nested geometric forms and electric palettes of tonal blues and lavenders, and dappled oranges and pinks earned him a key place in the country’s abstract movement.

Frost’s aesthetic, informed by the coastal landscape of his native Cornwall, combines hard-edged geometric planes with gestural strokes and dappled pointillism. He exhibited widely during his lifetime and showed at institutions including the Hermitage Museum, the ICA London, the Brooklyn Museum, the Tate St. Ives, and the British Council in New York.
