About the Artist

Nicky trained at Eastbourne College of Education and the Chelsea School of Art. Her spontaneous temperament is perfectly catered for by the Raku method of ceramics that she has chosen as her main form of expression.

This ancient Japanese method of firing encourages experimentation due to a certain amount of unpredictability which adds a unique quality to every piece. The shoes and boots have evolved from working with soft slabs, a medium that allows for flexible designs.

Nicky has exhibited in local galleries in the Richmond and Twickenham areas and at ceramic festivals. Her studio is on Eel Pie Island amongst the community of inspiring artisans. She has spent most of her life encouraging others to develop their creative potential by teaching in schools and colleges. She currently teaches ceramics at Richmond Adult Community College.
